Scenic Drives

Virginia and West Virginia have several well known, and many lesser known scenic drives. Many of these routes will take you through meadows, forests and one-lane bridges. Many of these routes I've discovered simply by exploring back roads and old farm roads. While I don't discourage you from traveling the better known scenic routes, I have found beautiful and unspoiled countryside by simply turning off the beaten path.

Front Royal seems to be a gateway to the Shenandoah mountains, and is a good starting point for many of these routes. Take I-66 west to Route 340 South. Route 340 south passes directly through Front Royal. Distance times are measured from Georgetown, Washington D.C.
