Day Trip Wine Tours
Virginia hosts many small vineyards. Most welcome walk in guests for tastings and locally created culinary delicacies. I have listed several day trips below, all can be easily completed on a day trip. I have chosen the tours based on the quality of the vineyards and the beauty of the drives. Each tour covers four or five vineyards and about twenty to thirty miles of country roads. Wine tastings are free and available on a walk-in basis unless noted.
The country roads may seem a little confusing at first, but are easy to navigate once you become familiar with the envelope sized state-road numbered signs. I would advise leaving Washington around ten in the morning, no later than noon, to leave plenty of time to walk around the vineyards and stop the car at interesting and scenic parts of the drive. The Vineyards sell their wine by the bottle, usually about $10.00 to $12.00 each. Expect heavier traffic and higher prices around Middleburg and Charlottesville.
